Smithrite Disposal Ltd. Today

In 1947, after having completed his service in World War II Ascher Smith met and married his wife Irene. Together they formed Smithrite Building Maintenance Ltd. At that time they specialized in window cleaning as well as providing janitorial services throughout Greater Vancouver.

By the late 1950's their business had grown to encompass a steady register of clean up jobs which led them to purchase their first garbage truck. It was at this point that they recognized a new business opportunity in waste disposal and recycling and so Smithrite Disposal was born.

Over the ensuing 30 years Smithrite became one of the largest privately owned companies of it's kind in North America. In 1983, Ascher and Irene decided to retire and they sold the company.

In 1997 their son Gordon resurrected the company and today he and his team are well on their way to rebuilding the company that was once synonymous with the waste and recycling industry in Vancouver.
